The Detroit Demolition women's football team presented a new bike to a local disabled man whose bike had been stolen.
In collaboration with Fox 2 News, Detroit and Town & Country Bikes in Livonia, the Detroit Demolition women’s football team was able to help a local man in need.
The Detroit Demolition first heard about Jerry “Butch” Batke from the local Fox 2 Problem Solvers on TV and they were quick to respond. The Detroit Demolition prides itself on community service and giving back to the community when it can.
48-year-old Batke is a Livonia man who is developmentally disabled. He depended on his 3-wheel bike to get around and visit friends and neighbors. The bike was his only means of transportation. Much to his dismay, however, his prized possession was stolen last Christmas and has not reappeared. Batke felt lost without his bike and was in need of a replacement.
A concerned neighbor notified Fox 2 News in an effort to recover the bike and seek justice for Batke, who is a kind man who didn’t deserve to be treated this way. Her call for help did not go unanswered. The management staff of the Detroit Demolition went to action and secured the same bike, called the Miami Sun, for Batke at a discounted price from Town and country Bike in Livonia, MI.
But the Demolition didn’t stop there. They purchased the 3-wheeel bike, gave Batke VIP seats for himself and his family to the Saturday night game against the Chicago Force on May 12th and had a Lion player present the bike to him at the game. They were treated as special guests and were even escorted to their seats via a golf cart.
Fox 2 News sent a camera man to the game to televise Batke as he cheerfully received his new bike. Batke, as well as friends and family, were grateful for the efforts the Detroit Demolition and associated sponsors made to make this happen. Though it doesn’t make it right for the person who stole his first bike, he is able to get around once again thanks to the kindness of others.
Batke is thrilled to have a new bike to ride and he got it just in time to enjoy using it all summer long, thanks to the efforts of the Detroit Demolition women’s football team. Though Batke may not have been a fan of women’s football before, he certainly appreciates the Detroit Demolition team now and the trouble they went through to make his life a little easier.
