Fantasy Football League ChoicesHow to Choose an On-line Gridiron League
Football fans everywhere have flocked to fantasy football leagues. But with numerous options out there, it is hard to know which one is best.
Armchair quarterbacking is a thing of the past thanks to Fantasy Football leagues that allow users to draft players and even be a commissioner. You are the boss and you make the decisions. For some, the fantasy schedule is just as important as the college and NFL season. But some users might have a tough go deciding which Fantasy Football League is best for them. Here are some variables to consider. Standard Draft LeaguesStandard Draft Leagues are the most popular leagues and are available in two kinds: Head-to-head and total points. For head-to-head, the team with the most points is declared the winner, but the team with the best win/loss records at the season’s end advance to the playoffs. If the league focuses solely on total points then the win/loss record becomes irrelevant, and the team with the most points advances to the playoffs. Dynasty LeaguesDynasty Leagues seem to cater to the more competitive player, but also forces one to stay on the ball every year. For example, if you want to draft a player, you must be willing to release a player. A “coach” cannot stack the deck when they bring in new talent, which creates a sense of balance. Success in a Dynasty League also depends on the user’s knowledge. For example, the user must have an exceptional knowledge of the game, rules, player rankings and draft analysis. In this sense, Dynasty Leagues offer the use a more realistic experience. Again, the rules seem to be more stringent and may not be of interest to a more casual user. Keeper LeaguesKeeper Leagues are different from Dynasty Leagues, because by definition it is much harder to have a dynasty team. The roster turnover is the reason for this. For example, an owner can only retain a certain number of players from year to year. The positive is that the chances of one team dominating year in and year out is slim and an owner is forced to effectively restructure to be successful. Survivor LeaguesOne could say that a Survivor League is the equivalent to a “Last Man Standing” contest. The team with the least amount of points each week is eliminated. For some, the lack of rules might be appealing. Others might find that such a system is less competitive because one avoids scoring the least amount of points, instead of trying to score the most points.
