Jeremy Shockey Trade on the Way?New York Giants offseason troubles with Burress, ShockeyJeremy Shockey and the general manager of the New York Giants, Jerry Reese, recently got into a shouting match. Will the New York Giants should trade or release Shockey?
Jeremy Shockey has been one of the New York Giants' best players since he was drafted from the Miami Hurricanes. But his atittude has soured in recent years and injuries have also been a problem. Some media outlets say his tirade and shouting match with general manager Jerry Reese might be the last straw. The New York Giants have been trying to trade Shockey for a while but trades are hard to make in the NFL and Shockey has some atittude problems NFL teams are afraid of. Shockey is a great receiving tight end and a monster that other NFL teams have a hard time covering when he's healthy, but the attitude problems have caused a bit of a divide in the New York Giants' locker room. The New York Giants were able to win the Super Bowl without Shockey so a trade of Shockey to a team looking for a shot in the arm for its offense is still a possibility. The New York Giants probably wouldn't get a whole lot back at this point but for the good of the team in the wake of Shockey's shouting match, a trade might be the best thing. Releasing Shockey doesn't seem prudent as the New York Giants should be able to get something for Jeremey Shockey in a trade, however. Jeremy Shockey has been made expendable because of the emergence of Kevin Boss. Boss was an unheralded draft pick who played very well for the New York Giants in the Super Bowl and down the stretch of the season. Kevin Boss doesn't possess Jeremey Shockey's athleticism but he is a hard worker with sure hands who can block and catch as a tight end. Jeremy Shockey has those traits too but Boss is much cheaper so a trade of Jeremy Shockey might be the best thing for both the New York Giants and Shockey right now. Jeremy Shockey and the New York Giants have had some bad blood in the past the recent shouting match between him and general manager Reese will be even harder to repair. The New York Giants won the Super Bowl without Jeremy Shockey and they can do it again, with a little luck of course. Because the New York Giants already have a great passing game with tons of options like Amani Toomer, Plaxico Burress, rookie Mario Manningham (who has impressed in NFL camp), and Steve Smith, losing Shockey won't hurt the Giants that much in the passing game. The running game could take a bit of a blow but the New York Giants have Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw to form a nice backfield tandem and a pretty good offensive line as well.
