LFL Miami vs. PhiladelphiaLingerie Football League Arrives In Trenton
The Miami Caliente and Philadelphia Passion christened Trenton with exciting LFL action.
Though they're called the Philly Passion, they play their home games at Trenton's Sovereign Bank Arena. They suited up, helmets, shoulder pads, and nothing else but swim suits. Those who got tackled low felt it...painfully. "I'm so sore right now," remarked Passion linebacker Lauren LaBella during a postgame interview session. Despite their valiant effort, the Passion fell to Miami 37-26 before thousands, mainly men, at SBA. The Caliente's two interceptions, both of which set up scores, were ultimately the difference in the game. "We needed them, we needed them bad," said Miami quarterback Morgan McGrath. "It turned the game around immensely." The lead changed hands six times, yet the Caliente's ability to capitalize off Philadelphia's mistakes gave them the advantage they needed to escape with a win. "Every little part makes a difference," said Miami TE Kaylee Tuning. "Each stop, I mean, it was back and forth in the beginning; so each stop helped completely." The victory propelled Miami to 2-1 on the season, while Philly fell to 1-1. "It's a tough setting," says Labella. "We knew what we needed to do at halftime, we just didn't come out, didn't bring it. We know what we need to do for next time." LaBella, who suffered a visibly painful scrape on her left hip, sustained many hits and tackles, and believed the game could have gone more cleanly. She also left the field feeling the sting of frustration. "We're better than Miami," she adds. "If we meet them again, we'll kill 'em. We've just got to bring 100 percent...I think we were only 75 tonight." First Game MemoriesThe crowd, roughly 80 percent male, came out to partake in a Friday evening filled with excitement. They were treated to hard-hitting, tackle football, and at the same time enjoyed eyecandy, courtesy of the young, fit, beautiful women playing the game. Most of the pre-game music was rock. It also blared for the player introductions. Team captain Jamie Diamonds came out waving a team flag and getting fans revved up. The players made themselves available for photos and autographs after the game. Fans that took advantage of those opportunities walked away smiling. Players say it's all the beginning of something great. "So much can come out of this league," says LaBella. "The league has given us a great opportunity to show people how athletic girls can be, and you can do it being attractive! People are catching on...it's a new league. Once people see how tough it is, they'll come out!" The Passion's only other home outing in their brief, four game 2009 season, is not until Friday, December 11th. They will play host to the Tampa Breeze.
