Football and beautiful women is the winning combination for the Lingerie Football League set to kick off their first nationally televised season in 2009.
For the past five years, the Lingerie Bowl has redefined the meaning of fantasy football for sports (mostly male) fans. Now, the newly expanded Lingerie Football League has added a full season of game play to its already popular Super Bowl halftime alternative. HistoryThe LFL is an offshoot of the Lingerie Bowl that began in 2004 during the half time of Super Bowl XXXVIII. The event has been marketed as an alternative to the Super Bowl half time show which gained a reputation for being boring after the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. The first Lingerie Bowl was shown on Pay-Per-View for 20 dollars and featured Team Dream vs. Team Euphoria. The match up was filmed at the Los Angeles Memorial Colosseum. The show returned during the Super Bowl in 2005 and 2006. The Lingerie bowl was canceled in 2007 after the game's promoters, Horizons Productions Inc., were unable to get a permit to play in Scottsdale, AZ, where the Superbowl was being held that year. In 2008, the Bowl was canceled again. On January 31, 2009, The Miami Caliente will play the Tampa Breeze in the Lingerie Bowl VI at Caliente Luxury Resort in Land O'Lakes, FL. TeamsThe 10 LFL teams are divided into an eastern and western conference. Each LFL team has its own cheerleader/dance squad and official home arena. Fans can keep up with their favorite teams through official Web sites that offer social networking communities, news updates and online purchase of tickets and team apparel. Eastern Conference: Atlanta Steam (TBA), Chicago Bliss (Sears Centre), Miami Caliente (Bank Atlantic Center), New England Eurphoria (Dunkin Donuts Center), Tampa Breeze (St. Pete Times Forum) Western Conference: Dallas Desire (QuikTrip Park), Los Angeles Temptation (TBA), Phoenix Scorch (TBA), San Diego Seduction (San Diego Sports Arena), Settle Mist (Kent Event Center) UniformsEach player wears a sports bra, bikini briefs, a helmet and pads. A lace chocker and garter belt serve as accessories. The team uniforms are modeled in color after the respective city's NFL team's uniforms. For example, the Chicago Bliss play in orange and blue, the same as the Chicago Bears. Players and CoachesModels and actresses make up the team rosters. Although beauty seems to be a top requirement for making the team, players need to be athletic to survive the 7-on-7 full contact games. Past players have included Angie Everhart, Nikki Ziering, America's Next Top Model Cycle One winner Adrienne Curry, actor Jenny McCarthy and pop singer Willa Ford. The current rosters have players from all over the country and even as far as Colombia and Belgium. Former NFL players were recruited for coaching positions. Dennis Mckinnon, former Chicago Bears wide receiver, is head coach of Chicago Bliss. ScheduleThe season lasts 20 weeks and goes from September through January with a week off in December. There is one game each week and each team plays four games per season. The inaugural season kicks off Sept. 14, 2009 between Miami Caliente and Chicago Bliss at the Sears Centre in Chicago. The LFL is changing the rules of American football with a new approach to the traditional game of pigskin.
