Cincinnati's St. Xavier Takes Lead in National Composite Standings

Northwestern of Miami slips to second. Katy and South Panola move up. Top 25 still includes nineteen unbeaten teams. Florida, California still dominating states.

The St. Xavier Bombers of Cincinnati, Ohio moved into first place in the December 11 composite high school football rankings, edging previous leader Northwestern of Miami, Florida 74-72. St. Xavier completed its season with a 15-0 record and Ohio's Division 1 state championship.

Northwestern (14-0) extended its winning streak to 29 games, but slipped from first after struggling to defeat Deerfield Beach, 18-14, in Florida's Division 6A state championship semi-final game.

Katy and South Panola Move Up to Third and Fourth

Katy, TX (14-0) finished in third place with 67 points. South Panola (15-0) of Batesville took over fourth place as it won its fifth consecutive Mississippi state championship.

This week's composite rankings were based on the Prep Nation, Rise Magazine and Sports Illustrated polls, awarding 25 points for first place, 24 for second, etc. in each poll. The ESPN and USA Today polls will not be updated until later in December.

Nine Teams Have 15-0 Records

Nineteen of the teams in the Top 25 composite rankings were undefeated. Nine had 15-0 records; six were 14-0, two were 13-0 and another pair were 12-0. All of the top 10 teams were undefeated.

With Northwestern, Booker T. Washington and Pahokee all in the top eight, Florida continued to dominate the Top 25 composite rankings with a total of 193 points. Californnia was second with 152, Texas third with 89 and Ohio fourth with 85.

Here are the rankings following the December 7-9 weekend games. Season records are shown in parenthesis, followed by the team's composite points in the three polls.
