With a win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the Patriots have officially made their presence known as a Super Bowl contender and a threat in the AFC playoff race.
In a conference full of dominating offenses and stingy defenses, the Patriots have made their impression felt on the teams of both the AFC and the NFC. With a quiet 8-3 record and giving the Chicago Bears their second loss of the season on Sunday, New England has proved that they are once again worthy of another Super Bowl appearance and will not go away without a fight. At the begining of the fourth quarter of this possible Super Bowl matchup, the score was deadlocked at 10-10 and game had only seen a defensive battle with nine turnovers combined from both teams. As almost everyone knows, Tom Brady is no stranger to late game heroics and the Bears just underestimated the three-time Super Bowl champ. It was third down and three yards to go and Brady connected with tight end Ben Watson on a 40-yard pass for a touchdown, which sealed the deal for the Patriots and proved that New England is a force to be reckoned with. New England took the win, beating the Bears 17-13. New England's challenges have only just begun; there are plenty of AFC teams that are playing just as good if not better than the Pats. Not to mention, the three losses the Patriots have are all from AFC opponents (Colts, Jets, Denver). It will not be easy this year, with teams like Baltimore(9-2), Indianapolis (10-1), San Diego (9-2) in the same conference and showing no signs of stopping their winning ways. The three-time champs will have their work cut out for them!
