Two BCS championships and three apperances to the BCS bowl. Two Heisman trophies and seemingly endless records at USC and in college football. I am talking about Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. These two rookies are making some big waves in the NFL. With Reggie Bush being a constant threat, not just in the running game for the New Orlean Saints, but also being a go to receiver for Drew Brees, and Matt Leinart having his first start for the Arizona Cardinals, making an impression that has people in Arizona talking.
Reggie Bush has been nothing less than awesome for the Saints so far, gaining 552 total yds and one touchdown in five games. Clearly one of the best rookies to come out of the draft and officially making his presence known in his last game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints were down 21-17 to the Bucs and had to punt to Reggie Bush(offense ironman) who was on the 35 yard line and 65 yards later, number 25 gets his first NFL touchdown. Not only did he score the game winning touchdown, but set the receiving standard with 11 receptions for 63 yards and leads the NFL with 34 receptions.
Then you have the other SC standout in Matt Leinart, he had an absolutely flawless and promissing first quarter. Going 8 for 9 and having two touchdowns passes. One thrown to his Pro Bowl receiver Larry Fitzgerald and a 49-yard toss to wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who with help of QB Matt Leinart will become an elite receiver for Arizona. Leinart had some rookie moments, but it is obvious this guy is going to be a force in the NFL. He ended the game with a hell of a drive down the field to set up kicker Neil Rackers for a 51-yard field goal that would've tied the game, but with an unusual miss by Rackers the Cardinals lost 23-20.
Finishing game 22 for 35, 2 TDs and 1 Int, Matt Leinart has proven thus far he can play at this level and could have promissing career in the NFL.
Next game for Matt Leinart will be a true test, against the 5-0 Chicago Bears who have no signs of slowing down, not mention a dominant pass defense which will challenge Leinart with every snap. It will interesting to see what this kid can do!
