» Jerry M. Gutlon - Can the Patriots Go Undefeated?
No National Football League team has gone undefeated since the 1972 Miami Dolphins, 35 years ago. The New England Patriots -- currently 11-0 with Week 13 of the 2007 NFL season pending -- could be poised to break that mark. But it's a different world in the NFL now. A team must go 19-0 to max things out. In the wake of New England's recent scare by the Philadelphia Eagles is it realistic to think the Pats can run the table?
The Eagles shut down the Patriots' long-passing game, gave them trouble on the ground, and exploited New England's pass defense by constantly throwing short passes between the outer hashmarks. It could be a blueprint that other opponents could emulate.
And now the Patriots have lost their outstanding outside linebacker, Roosevelt Colvin, although the team has remained remarkably untouched by serious injuries thus far this season.
Can the Patriots go undefeated and win their fourth Superbowl since the 2001 season?
